Something Old (Left), Something New (Right). These two pieces both depict my favorite elements of the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy. Something Old depicts Pio Fedi's "The Rape of Polyxena" inside the Loggia dei Lanzi, and Something New depicts the Fountain of neptune from behind. Both pieces are based on photos that I took while studying abroad in Europe in the summer of 2019. Both pieces are 18" x 24" and were created freehand with sharpie markers later that summer. In both pieces, I tried to combine my personal style with the regal style of classical art featured throughout Florence as the center of the Renaissance. By modernizing the style of what is depicted into a pop-art-esque, detailed, line art design, I was hoping to evoke the feeling that one was looking at both something old and something new.
